Hi ! I am Miriam Pius, Clinical Counsellor and Director of M-Power Counselling & Consultancy.
M-Power Counselling & Consultancy was born out of my passion for empowering people to find their own pathways to change and equipping them with the tools to achieve fulfilling lives.
I have post – graduate qualifications in Psychology and Counselling. I have been working as a counsellor in Brisbane for over 15 years in a variety of government and non-government settings. I have extensive experience working with veterans and their families, people with disabilities, people re-entering the workforce after an illness or injury, people with chronic pain and immigrants.
I am a clinical member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and a full member of the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counselling (ASORC).
I believe you are the expert of your own life and experiences, and my role is to help you find the balance in your life to help you make meaningful values-based changes. I am passionate about using a holistic / bio – psycho – social approach integrating all components of wellness to empower the COMPLETE YOU, to achieve lasting health and wellbeing.
My mission is to help you improve your physical, psychological, social, and emotional wellbeing through EMPOWERMENT; as I firmly believe that you are the artists of your own destiny, and you have the inherent ability to design your own canvas of ’LIFE’.
In addition to my clinical practice, I also provide occupational rehabilitation services which include:
- Vocational Counselling

- Transferrable skills assessments
- Employability assessments
My passion and areas of expertise, but not limited to, are:
- Helping people live fulfilling lives with chronic pain
- Helping people return to work after an injury , disability, or after a long-term health condition
- Helping people with stress, anxiety, and mood concerns
- Helping migrants and refugees deal and cope with the social, emotional, and career challenges of living in a new country
- Helping people achieve their vocational / career goals or transition to a new career
My Approach
I approach therapy, as a collaborative process of mutual respect, integrity, compassion, patience, honesty, and insight. As a counsellor, I believe my role is to equip you with the tools and resources to support you through the journey of life. In a safe, supportive, and non- judgemental environment, I will help you identify your strengths and empower you to make positive changes to your life.
I draw on a number of therapeutic approaches including: Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Solution – Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) therapies. Using a “mind – body holistic / bio – psycho – social approach” my goal is to help you create a healthy and happy life.
In my work with you I also utilise a combination of creative and complimentary approaches such as – Mindfulness, Meditation, Art, Yoga, Animals and Horticulture to help you find wholeness, balance and well – being.
I tailor my approach to suit your unique needs. I consider it my privilege to support you on your pathway to wellbeing and wholeness.

On a more personal note
- I enjoy spending time in nature and at the beach with my husband, and fur baby (Mitch), who also doubles as my practice’s welcoming committee.
- My pastimes include – painting, photography, gardening, interior decorating, cooking, sewing, beading, making jewellery, and crafting.
- I am a plant enthusiast and love spending time caring for my indoor and outdoor plants or visiting the local plant nurseries.
- My favourite activities are cycling with my husband, going to the park with Mitch and meeting fellow dog lovers, meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, RPM and aqua aerobics.
- One of my favourite pastimes is reading.
- I am a Yoga Practitioner.
